Dear ArtNow Readers,

Thank you so much for your patience as we update, reengineer, and improve our online magazine. We are committed to providing you with the best insights into the art world both in Pakistan and overseas. Exciting weeks lie ahead with the opening of the Lahore Biennale (LB03) and the Karachi Biennale (KB24), events that promise to immerse audiences in engaging and thought-provoking themes. Follow us on all social media channels, and we’ll keep you up to date on this exhilarating journey!

We are thrilled to announce our art media partnership with the third edition of the Lahore Biennale (LB03), which will begin on 5 October 2024. This year’s biennale, titled ‘Of Mountains and Seas,’ centers on themes of ecologies and sustainable futures, providing a platform where art, environmental consciousness, and global collaboration converge to imagine alternative futures. The event will include exhibitions, performances, screenings, workshops, and talks, offering a variety of opportunities for audiences to engage with both the works and the artists.

This year’s theme emphasizes the importance of ecological balance and sustainability in the face of environmental crises. Beginning from 5 October until 8 November 2024, LB03 invites the public to explore new ways of thinking about the intersection of art and nature, sparking discussions about how creativity can influence the future of our planet.

ArtNow is the art media partner of the Karachi Biennale (KB24), which is poised to offer another significant artistic exploration, bringing together over 40 artists and collectives from 10 countries. The theme for this edition, ‘Rizq/Risk,’ explores the intricate relationship between food, climate change, and socio-political dynamics. The biennale will examine the current foodscape, considering the impacts of colonial and neoliberal policies while honoring traditional food cultures and the vital role women play in food production and the preservation of indigenous knowledge.

Curated by Waheeda Baloch, Karachi Biennale’s first woman curator, KB24 will take place across five venues in Karachi from 27 October to 10 November 2024. This biennale is sure to provoke deep reflections on the fragility and resilience of our food systems and the complex risks and rewards involved.

Meanwhile, the excitement continues globally, with Frieze London currently showcasing Adeela Suleman’s powerful works, and the Saudi Museum presenting Hamra Abbas in a remarkable exhibition. These shows further underline the global significance of South Asian artists on the international stage.

As we look forward to these enriching biennales in Pakistan, we also keep our eyes on the global stage, where other major art biennales continue to inspire new perspectives. Art can be a powerful tool for change, and these biennales remind us of its ability to challenge boundaries, provoke dialogue, and shape futures.

Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more details!
