Mandy El-Sayegh and Dima Srouji at Abu Dhabi Art 2024
Abu Dhabi Art 2024 is presenting a compelling lineup of contemporary art, featuring solo presentations by two influential artists: Mandy El-Sayegh and Dima Srouji. The fair runs from 19 to 24 November at Manarat Al Saadiyat (MAS), Abu Dhabi, with a dynamic exhibition of works that explore social, cultural, and political themes.
Mandy El-Sayegh at Booth AS3
Mandy El-Sayegh’s solo presentation at Booth AS3 offers a powerful immersive installation, comprising large-scale paintings and sculptural works created in-situ by the artist. El-Sayegh’s work is known for its intricate collages of diverse materials such as newsprint, advertisements, aerial maps, and anatomical texts, alongside her use of non-traditional elements like latex. These layers are used to explore how meaning is formed through fragmented sources, questioning how social and political structures are constructed and deconstructed in the contemporary world.
Mandy El-Sayegh at ‘Gateway 2024: Otra Orilla (Another Shore)’
In addition to her booth presentation, El-Sayegh is debuting a newly commissioned work titled Psychic Self-Defence for the Gateway exhibition at Hall S. Curated by Odessa Warren and Carine Harmand, this year’s Otra Orilla (Another Shore) theme connects the Arab world with Latin America, exploring diasporic experiences and shared histories. The exhibition includes moving images, textiles, and installations, featuring works by artists such as Emilia Estrada, Alia Farid, and Ishtar Yasin Gutiérrez.
Dima Srouji at Booth IAA-2: In & Around Program
The fair also features Dima Srouji’s works at Booth IAA-2 as part of the In & Around program. Srouji’s Maternal Labour series honors Palestinian women who were employed by Western institutions in the 20th century to excavate their own land. The Rule of Superpositions, another of her installations, presents a floor piece that imagines an archaeological space beneath the earth, revealing layers of Palestine’s past, present, and future.
This year’s edition of Abu Dhabi Art brings together global and local narratives, highlighting how contemporary artists are responding to themes of identity, memory, and history through innovative mediums.
